What is a Basic Metabolic Panel?
- Electrolyte Panel – Electrolytes are minerals present in the body as dissolved salts. They keep your body’s fluids in balance and help keep your body working normally, including your heart rhythm, muscle contraction, and brain function. This panel checks for the following electrolytes: Sodium (Na+); Potassium (K+); Chloride (Cl-); Bicarbonate (HCO3-), Magnesium (Mg), Calcium (Ca).
- Kidney Function – Kidney Function Test, also known as a Renal Function Panel, is a blood test used to evaluate and to monitor the kidney functioning. The BUN/Creatinine ratio is useful in the differential diagnosis of acute or chronic renal disease. BUN stands for blood urea nitrogen. This test checks for the following: Albumin, Calcium, Carbon Dioxide, Chloride, Creatinine, Glucose, Phosphate (as Phosphorus), Potassium, Sodium and Urea Nitrogen levels.
- Glucose Test – Glucose Test is a blood test used to assess the levels of glucose in blood. It is used to diagnose diabetes, cancers, and other metabolic disorders.
