What is a Parathyroid Scan?
Nuclear Medicine Parathyroid Scan is use to perform and examine the function and health of the parathyroid gland which provides calcium in the body.
Who should get a Parathyroid Scan?
Doctors may ordered Parathyroid Scan if you have these following indications:
- Hyperparathyroidism (parathyroid disease)
- A Benign Parathyroid tumor we call a Parathyroid Adenoma
- Nausea, vomiting or loss of appetite
- Excessive urination
- Abdominal pain
Is there radiation involved?
Yes. Nuclear Medicine is an imaging test which involves a small amount of radiation to show pictures of the organs, tissues, and bones of the body.

Once completed, you will receive your results within 3-5 business days in your LabFinder portal.
How do I prepare? Do I need to fast?
